A big part of developmentally appropriate practice is to individualize classroom environments and instruction based on the unique strengths and developing areas of each child.
All teachers must individualize their instruction and environment for each child on a regular basis. These changes do not have to be big; often introducing new materials or books can be a great way to help children work on areas that are still developing. Sometimes more directed teacher-initiated activities are the best way to meet children’s changing needs and other times play materials and exploration topics can meet individual needs.
