We dealt with a period of great change in the first two weeks of our course! You learned about the Reformation, European global exploration, the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment, the Industrial Revolution, the French Revolution, the rise and fall of Napoleon, the Concert of Europe concept, Romanticism, the 1848 Revolutions, Realism, the rise of nationalism in the 19th century, Realpolitik, and the Age of European Imperialism. First, briefly discuss the period we covered in Weeks 1 and 2, focusing on what you feel are some of the most significant movements/figures/events during that time. Then address the following questions: in what ways do you think life was different within Western Civilization from approx. 1500 to the turn of the 20th century? In what ways was life the same? Ultimately, what movement/figure/event do you feel had the biggest impact upon Western Civilization between 1500 and 1914?
