The company that I chose is Walgreen Boots Alliance Inc. The organization is an American company in the healthcare pharmaceutical retail industry whose headquarter is in Chicago. It is among the largest retail pharmacy company across the United States and also in Europe (Walgreen Boots Alliance Inc., 2019). It is also one of the largest purchasers of prescription drugs, among other well-being and health products. The size of the company, expertise, and scale has enabled the company to expand its supply of prescriptive medications in the United States and worldwide. Walgreen Boots Alliance has three divisions, which include pharmaceutical wholesale, retail pharmacy international, and retail pharmacy. The primary purpose of the company is to help people worldwide to lead healthy and happier lives. It contributes to a healthy planet, healthy communities, and a sustainable market place. Besides, the company appears in the FORTUNES’ 2020 list of the most admired companies in the world (Walgreen Boots Alliance Inc., 2019).

Business Problems or Opportunities Overview

A Brief Description of the Problem

The company faces various business problems. These problems include long queues that cause long customer wait times, poor customer experience, and considerable strain on staff and resources (Marley, 2016). The company has been experiencing long queues from customers since they do not have a platform where they can make appointments online. The problem leads to poor customer experience since most of the customers waste a lot of time queuing while waiting to be served. Also, the staff ends up straining so much as they try to serve all customers. Hence, the company can implement new technology to ensure that these problems are solved.

How the Problem Affects the Organization

The issue of long queues has affected the company negatively. The company has been receiving so many complaints from the customers due to the long wait times. Long waits times are more than just an inconvenience to the customers. They end up being frustrated, and most customers attribute this to poor management of the company. The practice affects the satisfaction of customers negatively. Sometimes the customers may end up looking for alternatives companies that offer the same products or services in a better way; hence the company ends up losing some of its customers (Marley, 2016). Long wait times also undermine the operational efficacy of the company. The mechanism has caused a decrease in sales of the company.Moreover, when there are many unattended customers, the company’s staff ends up straining a lot. The firm compels employees to work extra hours so that they can serve all the customers. The practice negatively affects the company since most workers complain about the long working hours in the company.

Overview of Technology Solution Category

To solve the problems that Walgreen Boots Alliance Inc. is facing, the company can adopt an appointment schedule system. An appointment scheduling system refers to a business solution that enables companies to improve efficiency in scheduling meetings, booking appointments, and it also allows organizations to track as well as manage the appointments made (Gillespie & Weare, 2019). This software helps in customer scheduling, staff scheduling, view calendar, and it also provides automatic reminders by allowing the company to send reminders to customers about the upcoming appointments.

Moreover, the appointment schedule system technology fits Walgreen Boots Alliance Inc. as it can help the company solve the problems it is experiencing. It will help the company reduce customer wait-times. Once customers book for an appointment using the appointment schedule system, they are select or a given specific time which they will be served once they visit the company. The customer also saves time since there is no need to call the company to book an appointment since this can be done online. The recommendation will also help in saving time for the support staff.
